Department of Mental Health Nursing (Psychiatric Nursing) played an important role throughout this year focusing on academic and non academic development of the under graduate students. The department under the experienced faculty provides education to the students regarding various psychiatric disorders, its management and the roles played by psychiatric nurses in caring for the clients. It enables the students to develop confidence in dealing with the clients and to consider the client as an individual. The department also prepares the students to function effectively as psychiatric nurse, educator, researcher and a counselor for dealing the minor problems of the clients and family.

Classes and training program
Different methods like lecture method, discussion, role play, observation visit, debate, seminar and presentations were used for teaching the students.The students were provided with 2 months of clinical experience at Christuraj Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Science ( CIMHANS), Kuthuparamba, Kannur. During the period of clinical postings, the students got the opportunity to care for clients with different conditions; Schizophrenia, BPAD, RDD, Anxiety disorders, ADS, Substance abuse disorders etc.
